A STOLEN death tape showing beloved Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin’s gruesome end after his heart was pierced by a stingray’s barb is being shopped to the highest bidder on a sinister underground internet site!
Now sources are telling GLOBE the grim snuff film is believed to have been stolen from Australian police shortly after the 44-year-old animal wrangler’s shocking death. Irwin was filmed tracking a 220-pound bull ray, a type of stingray, off Australia’s Great Barrier Reef on Sept. 4, 2006 — and video of his end was turned over to investigators, sources say.
But the current attempt to auction off images of Steve writhing in his final throes is the “worst fears come true” for the Irwin family, says an insider.
“They’ve done everything in their power to keep the video from going public — but now it’s back!”
Steve’s boat crew, as well as Irwin’s relatives, viewed the tape and then took a solemn vow of silence about what they saw, sources say.
But as GLOBE reported, a crafty thief stole a bootleg copy of the tape before cops in Cairns, Queensland, could put the video safely under lock and key.
“This video has to be the one the thief stole,” says a source, who has viewed the footage. “He must have sat on the tape safe to post it to the internet!”
